The Pines has been running since 1972 on eight acres of sun lawns and woodland on a hillside above Longhope, at the edge of the Forest of Dean. Members jointly own the grounds, which are known for spring wild daffodils, bluebells and orchids. There is a small clubhouse with a kitchen, wood burner and library, flushing toilets, a volleyball and badminton court, a boules court and a fire pit. There is no mains water or electricity, so you bring your own drinking water.
Children are welcome with an adult, and members can camp overnight. Individuals cannot drop in for day visits unless they come with a member, so the best way to try it is one of the club's open days, held in spring. It suits people from Gloucester, Cheltenham, Ross and South Wales who want a quiet, outdoorsy club and are happy to help with upkeep.
