Blackthorns sits in a quiet patch of woodland a few miles north of Bedford, near Sharnbrook. Its grounds include a 20ft by 40ft heated outdoor pool open from Easter to October, a members-built sauna, a clubhouse with a wood-burning stove and kitchen, a barbecue lit most Saturday evenings, and courts for miniten, badminton, volleyball and pétanque, plus crazy golf and croquet.
The membership mixes singles, couples and families, and children join free with a parent. There are no casual visits: prospective members contact the club first and are then invited to a weekend visit to meet the membership secretary, with the chance to stay on and try naturism that day.
