The North Western Sunbathing Society was founded in 1933 and has been at Hillside, three miles south of Macclesfield on the edge of the Pennine foothills, since 1940. The five acres of steep, mature woodland include a sunbathing lawn, gardens and a fish pond, a boules court, a Swedish-style sauna and a nature trail down to a brook and waterfall. The raised wooden pavilion has a log burner and a kitchen.
The site has no mains water, so bring your own drinking water. Caravans and camper vans park in the car park, and tents can be pitched overnight by arrangement when a member is staying. There is a full social programme through the year, and visitors are invited to most events. Nudity is not compulsory and dogs are allowed in some areas.
