Springwood was founded in 1958 and sits in countryside about a quarter of an hour's drive from Colchester. Its land is held in trust so it stays a naturist site run by its members. The grounds include a private wood, a heated outdoor pool used in summer, an evening sauna, gym equipment, pétanque and miniten courts, a children's play area, a clubhouse and a pavilion.
Non-members can book day visits or camp in the open season, which runs from April (or Easter if earlier) to the end of October. Camping is aimed at naturists who live too far away for a day trip, and tents, campervans and caravans are accepted. Every visit must be booked in advance. Children are never expected to undress unless they are comfortable.
